Light flashed through the eerie darkness of the corridor, reflecting off of endless rows of lockers. A black shadow passed. Sunset pressed herself against the wall, praying that whatever had cast it wouldn’t notice her.
“You think you can hide from me?”
The world warped around her, exposing Sunset to her demonic counterpart.
“Pathetic, really,” the red-skinned creature remarked, nonchalantly inspecting her claws—then, with a flick, igniting jets of flames around the frightened girl.
“Why don’t you just leave me alone?” Sunset cried out, fighting to suppress the quiver in her voice as the fire inched closer.
“Leave you? I can’t leave you.” The demon swooped down to face her, revealing its toothy grin. “We’re one and the same.”
